PSYSCAPE 515

ABOUT          WORKS

Psyscape 515 is a series of paintings and digital works that explores the cannibalistic relationship between man and nature, child and mother.

It puts forth the idea of the puer aeternus (or eternal child, man-child) through the lens of Schopenhauer’s pessimism while encountering topics like destiny, mental health, and the unconscious. He outright refuses life, reality, and birth, and instead chooses to live in a constant dream state that actively siphons off on himself and the world around him. Schopenhauer's philosophy emphasises the inherent suffering and misery of human existence, which is exacerbated by the puer aeternus's refusal to mature and engage with the world. The puer aeternus instead lives and grows like a centipede, becoming more poisonous and monstrous as he ages, a violently idle parasite wrapped in flesh and blood of the Womb. He feeds on his own flesh and poison, bringing himself deeper into the psyscape with a compounding death grip.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Eva Mansor is an emerging multidisciplinary artist from Singapore who creates bright, violent, and disturbing works that feature figures and their narrative environments expressing uncomfortable introspections. Their inspiration comes from the early internet culture of imageboards, which has desensitized some generations to gross ultraviolence. Eva synchronizes this effect with the intense yet romantic human tragedies depicted in popular Russian literature. Eva's art portrays the pained joy of living with OCD, dysfunctional and strange families in their artwork, where the best things must coexist with the worst. Additionally, Eva uses unconventional materials, including discarded mattresses, as surfaces for their art.

Born in Singapore in 2000, Eva obtained their Diploma in Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts in 2021 and is currently pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in the same institution and field of study. Their works have been in various showcases organized by the institute, from the Open House in 2018 to the Walkway ArtSpace Exhibition and Diploma Graduation Show in 2021. While their works were previously sold at the Affordable Art Fair, this will be their debut solo exhibition.
